}} Deepwater cardinalfishes are perciform fishes in the family Epigonidae. The family includes about 43 species. They are small fishes: the largest, Epigonus telescopus, reaches {{convert|75|cm|in|abbr=on}} in length, and most grow to no more than {{convert|20|cm|in|abbr=on}} or so. They are found in temperate and tropical oceans throughout the world. They are bathydemersal fishes (inhabiting deep waters close to the sea bed) and have been found at depths of {{convert|3000|m|ft|abbr=on}}.
