HistoryPeople who frequented the popular Bar Chique desired to found a sporting club in the city.[2] After meeting from June 9 to June 13 of 1914, to discuss the concept.[3] The group scheduled a meeting to the following day to decide the foundation details.[3] The club was founded on June 14 of that year and named Democrata Futebol Clube.[3] The club's first president was Francisco Wanderley Azevedo.[4] Democrata played their first match on September 6, 1914, against another Minas Gerais state club.
