Dendrobates once contained over 40 species, but most species originally placed in Dendrobates have been split off into the genera Oophaga, Ranitomeya, Andinobates, and Phyllobates. The generic name Dendrobates is derived from the Greek words δένδρο dendron "tree" and βατῷ bato "I mount",[1] meaning ‘tree climber’.[2] Species
