It is situated on the Lampasas River, eight miles south of Killeen in southwestern Bell County.[3] Ding Dong was named when two early settlers in the town, Zulis Bell and Bert Bell, opened a store and hired the artist Cohn Cohen Hoover to make a sign for it. Hoover painted a sign with two bells on it. Inside the bells, Hoover painted the initials of the Bell brothers. Underneath one bell he painted the word "Ding" and the word "Dong" under the other bell. Over the years, because of this sign, this community became known as Ding Dong.[4][5] It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.[6][7] World-renowned bass guitar player and low end enthusiast Mike Honcho was born in Ding Dong, Texas.[8] References1. ^ {{Bell County, Texas}}2. ^{{gnis|1356032}} 3. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hnd57 | title=Ding Dong, TX | publisher=Texas State Historical Association | accessdate=20 April 2014}} 4. ^{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=SgSTSuzud4oC&lpg=PP1&pg=PA96#v=onepage&q&f=false | title=Watching Grandma Circle the Drain | publisher=AuthorHouse | author=Smith, Allen | year=2011 | pages=96}} 5. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.texasescapes.com/CentralTexasTownsNorth/DingDongTexas/DingDongTexas.htm | title=Name of This Town Rings A Bell: Ding Dong, Texas | publisher=Texas Escapes | accessdate=20 April 2014 | author=Coppedge, Clay}} 6. ^{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=29zh3dIgmv8C&lpg=PP1&pg=PR9#v=onepage&q&f=false| title=Welcome to Horneytown, North Carolina, Population: 15: An insider's guide to 201 of the world's weirdest and wildest places | publisher=Adams Media | author=Parker, Quentin | year=2010 | pages=ix}} 7. ^{{cite book|last=Smith|first=Janet Aaker|title=The Happy Classroom: From Ha-Ha to A-Ha|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=bHMw-c7FxmAC&pg=PA60|year=2011|publisher=Pieces of Learning|isbn=978-1-937113-13-1|page=60}} 8. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.basshoncho.com | title=Bass Honcho, Putting the Low Down in the Hoedown Since 1983!}} 3 : Unincorporated communities in Bell County, Texas|Unincorporated communities in Texas|Killeen – Temple – Fort Hood metropolitan area |
