It lived in North America during the Permian period. It closely resembles its relative, Diplocaulus. It generally sports the same features as Diplocaulus, though it was smaller, measuring over 46 cm.[1] Beerbower originally recognised two species, D.burkei and D.conemaughensis, but they are no longer regarded as being distinct from one another as their size ranges were found to overlap.[2] Other species include D. meritae from Nebraska and an indeterminate species from Oklahoma.[3] References1. ^http://www.angellis.net/Web/PDfiles/amphs.pdf {{Portal|Paleontology}}{{Nectridea}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q779996}}{{paleo-amphibian-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal | url=https://www.academia.edu/1093783/The_Moroccan_diplocaulid_the_last_lepospondyl_the_single_one_on_Gondwana | title=The Moroccan diplocaulid: the last lepospondyl, the single one on Gondwana | author=Germain D. | journal=Historical Biology | year=2010 | volume=22 | issue=1-3 | pages=4–39 | doi=10.1080/08912961003779678}} 3. ^{{Cite journal|last=May|first=William J.|last2=Hall|first2=Joseph D.|date=2016|title=First Occurrence of the Diplocaulid Genus Diploceraspis from the Wellington Formation (Lower Permian) of Northern Oklahoma|url=http://www.bioone.org/doi/pdf/10.1660/062.119.0209|journal=Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science|language=en-US|volume=119|issue=2|pages=193–199|doi=10.1660/062.119.0209|via=}} 3 : Diplocaulids|Cisuralian amphibians of North America|Fossil taxa described in 1963 |
