Doro Theou (Greek: Δώρο Θεού; English: God's Gift) is an album by popular Greek artist Katy Garbi, released in 1999 by Sony Music Greece. The album achieved gold status in Greece within a month of its release, and was eventually certified platinum in 2003, selling over 50,000 units. Six of the 13 tracks were composed by Giorgos Theofanous, while other notable composers on the album are Antonis Vardis and Christos Nikolopoulos. Two of the tracks are covers: the first, "Agkyres" is based on song "Iste hendek, iste deve" and the second is "Zileia", is based on Amr Diab's song "Kalast feek kol alkalam".

Release

Doro Theou was released as Garbi's tenth studio album in June 1999. It was available in two versions: one, the standard 13 track edition, and two, an unmarked special edition including a fourteenth track "Hasame Tin Agapi Mas" penned by Giorgos Theofanous. Both releases included the music video of the title track "Doro Theou", due to the video's release prior to the release of the album. Two of the tracks feature well known Greek artists as backing vocalists: Antonis Remos in the zeibekiko "Anisos Agonas" and Pashalis Terzis in "Sta Deka Metra". Doro Theou is often considered a dedication to Garbi's son because it was released during her pregnancy, however the album's insert clarifies that the dedication belongs to her husband, Dionisis Schinas, with the lyrics of the title track describing the real-life story the couple. A translation of the insert reads "Dionysis, this "Doro theou" is devoted to you, because you know how to make every day of our common life special".[1] Although, Doro Theou is considered as one of Garbi's best albums,{{cn|date=February 2019}} it was not widely promoted due to Garbi's pregnancy. The album's cover art won the award of best album cover of 1999.

Singles

Three singles were released from the album, with each having a music video directed by Giorgos Gkavalos. The title track "Doro Theou" was released as the lead single on 23 June 1999 to coincide with the release of the album. Filming took place in advance of the album's release with the album cover art being shot at the same time. Due to her pregnancy, Garbi's body is not visible for the duration of the video. The song was written by Giorgos Theoufanous (music) and Gioula Georgiou (lyrics). The followup single "Agkyres" is a cover of the 1971 Turkish song "Iste hendek, iste deve" and was released in August 1999. The music was written by Savvas Angin, with Greek lyrics by Eleni Giannatsoulia. It was filmed on a Greek island and depicts a traditional Greek Summer. Similar to the first single, Garbi's body was hidden. The third and final single from the album, "Aponomi dikaiosinis" was released in October 1999. The song was written by Giorgos Theofanous (music) and Gioula Georgiou (lyrics) and is the only music video from the album to show Garbi's body.
