The constituency elected 3 deputies (Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs) to the Dáil, using the single transferable vote form of proportional representation (PR-STV). HistoryThe constituency was created in 1977, under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974,[1] taking in parts of the former Dublin North-West and Dublin Central constituencies, as part of the redistribution of constituencies which attempted to secure the re-election of the outgoing Fine Gael–Labour Party government. The constituency was abolished in 1981 with most of it going into a revived Dublin Central constituency. There were 16 electoral areas in Dublin Cabra; 13 went to Dublin Central for the 1981 election, with three going to the new Dublin West (the areas of Phoenix Park, Cabra West A and Cabra West C). BoundariesIt covered the Cabra, Arran Quay and Phoenix Park areas of Dublin city.[1] TDs{{Irish TD table begin| constituency = Dublin Cabra | maxTDs = 3 | start = 1977 | end = 1981 | refs =[2] | Fianna Fáil | Fine Gael }}{{Irish TD table Dáil | dailnum = 21 | refs =[3] }}{{Irish TD table TD with party link | name = Tom Leonard | elections = 1 | party = Fianna Fáil }}{{Irish TD table TD with party link | name = Vivion de Valera | elections = 1 | party = Fianna Fáil }}{{Irish TD table TD with party link | name = Hugh Byrne | elections = 1 | party = Fine Gael }}{{Irish TD table end | dailnum = 22 | maxTDs = 3 | comment = Constituency abolished }} 1977 general election{{STV Election box begin|title = 1977 general election: Dublin Cabra[2][3] }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Vivion de Valera |party = Fianna Fáil |percentage = 22.9 |votes = 5,830 |seat = 1 |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Hugh Byrne |party = Fine Gael |percentage = 19.9 |votes = 5,042 |seat = 2 |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Tom Leonard |party = Fianna Fáil |percentage = 14.7 |votes = 3,728 |seat = 3 |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Patrick Carroll |party = Labour Party (Ireland) |percentage = 11.1 |votes = 2,817 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Richard Gogan |party = Fianna Fáil |percentage = 8.8 |votes = 2,224 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = David Thornley |party = Labour Party (Ireland) |percentage = 6.4 |votes = 1,615 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Michael Mullen |party = Labour Party (Ireland) |percentage = 6.3 |votes = 1,603 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Frank Sherwin |party = Independent (politician) |percentage = 5.6 |votes = 1,427 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = John McKay |party = Fine Gael |percentage = 3.9 |votes = 991 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box candidate with party link |candidate = Frank Hall |party = Independent (politician) |percentage = 0.5 |votes = 126 |seat = |count = }}{{STV Election box end |electorate = 37,656 |valid = 25,403 |spoilt = |quota = 6,351 |turnout = 67.4% }} See also
