{{Infobox_gene}}Dual specificity protein phosphatase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the DUSP1 gene.[1][2] Function The expression of DUSP1 gene is induced in human skin fibroblasts by oxidative/heat stress and growth factors. It specifies a protein with structural features similar to members of the non-receptor-type protein-tyrosine phosphatase family, and which has significant amino-acid sequence similarity to a Tyr/Ser-protein phosphatase encoded by the late gene H1 of vaccinia virus. The bacterially expressed and purified DUSP1 protein has intrinsic phosphatase activity, and specifically inactivates mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase in vitro by the concomitant dephosphorylation of both its phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine residues. Furthermore, it suppresses the activation of MAP kinase by oncogenic ras in extracts of Xenopus oocytes. Thus, DUSP1 may play an important role in the human cellular response to environmental stress as well as in the negative regulation of cellular proliferation.[3] Interactions DUSP1 has been shown to interact with MAPK14,[4][5] MAPK1[5][6] and MAPK8.[5] References 1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Keyse SM, Emslie EA | title = Oxidative stress and heat shock induce a human gene encoding a protein-tyrosine phosphatase | journal = Nature | volume = 359 | issue = 6396 | pages = 644–7 | date = Oct 1992 | pmid = 1406996 | pmc = | doi = 10.1038/359644a0 }} 2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Martell KJ, Kwak S, Hakes DJ, Dixon JE, Trent JM | title = Chromosomal localization of four human VH1-like protein-tyrosine phosphatases | journal = Genomics | volume = 22 | issue = 2 | pages = 462–4 | date = Jul 1994 | pmid = 7806236 | pmc = | doi = 10.1006/geno.1994.1411 }} 3. ^{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: DUSP1 dual specificity phosphatase 1| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=1843| accessdate = }} 4. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Tanoue T, Yamamoto T, Maeda R, Nishida E | title = A Novel MAPK phosphatase MKP-7 acts preferentially on JNK/SAPK and p38 alpha and beta MAPKs | journal = The Journal of Biological Chemistry | volume = 276 | issue = 28 | pages = 26629–39 | date = Jul 2001 | pmid = 11359773 | doi = 10.1074/jbc.M101981200 }} 5. ^1 2 {{cite journal | vauthors = Slack DN, Seternes OM, Gabrielsen M, Keyse SM | title = Distinct binding determinants for ERK2/p38alpha and JNK map kinases mediate catalytic activation and substrate selectivity of map kinase phosphatase-1 | journal = The Journal of Biological Chemistry | volume = 276 | issue = 19 | pages = 16491–500 | date = May 2001 | pmid = 11278799 | doi = 10.1074/jbc.M010966200 }} 6. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Calvisi DF, Pinna F, Meloni F, Ladu S, Pellegrino R, Sini M, Daino L, Simile MM, De Miglio MR, Virdis P, Frau M, Tomasi ML, Seddaiu MA, Muroni MR, Feo F, Pascale RM | title = Dual-specificity phosphatase 1 ubiquitination in extracellular signal-regulated kinase-mediated control of growth in human hepatocellular carcinoma | journal = Cancer Research | volume = 68 | issue = 11 | pages = 4192–200 | date = Jun 2008 | pmid = 18519678 | doi = 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-07-6157 }}
