It flows out of the Plauer See at Plau am See, and continues west and southwest through Lübz, Parchim, Neustadt-Glewe and Grabow. The Elde flows into the Löcknitz (itself a tributary of the Elbe) in Eldenburg, part of Lenzen (Elbe).
