It is endemic to Haiti and known from the Massif de la Hotte and Massif de la Selle. Its common name is foothill robber frog.[2] Its natural habitats are streams and their vicinity in mesic hardwood forests at elevations of {{convert|303|–|1697|m|abbr=on}} asl.[1] This formerly abundant species has not been reported since 1985 and may already be extinct. It is threatened by habitat loss caused by logging and agriculture.
