Lady Elizabeth Dowdall (died 1658) was the daughter of Sir John Dowdall,[1] a wealthy landowner in County Limerick Ireland. In 1629, she married Sir Hardress Waller,[1] who was later to become one of the regicides of Charles I. In 1641, during the Irish Rebellion, Elizabeth successfully defended Kilfinny Castle against the rebels, and is reputed to have hung several of them during the fighting.[2][3] She died in 1658. One of her daughters was Elizabeth Waller, Baroness Shelburne,[1] the wife of the economist Sir William Petty.[4] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web |last=Lundy |first=Darryl |url=http://www.thepeerage.com/p18068.htm |title= thePeerage.com - Person Page 18068 |publisher= The Peerage}}{{Unreliable source?|failed=y |date=September 2012}} 2. ^Women's Lives: Biographies 3. ^Women's Lives: Fire and Siege 4. ^{{cite web |last=Lundy |first=Darryl |url=http://www.thepeerage.com/p4891.htm#i48906 |title=p. 4891 § 48906 - Person Page 4891 |publisher= The Peerage}}{{Unreliable source?|failed=y |date=September 2012}} External links{{DEFAULTSORT:Dowdall, Lady Elizabeth}}{{UK-noble-stub}}{{Ireland-noble-stub}} 11 : People of the Irish Confederate Wars|History of County Limerick|Year of birth missing|1658 deaths|17th-century Irish women|Women in 17th-century warfare|Women in European warfare|17th-century Irish people|People from County Limerick|Women of the Stuart period|Irish nobility |
