The team is coached by Neil Dewsnip.[1] The team competed in the FIFA International Youth Tournament (later taken over by UEFA) and its successor, the UEFA European Under-18 Championship, and was often referred to as England Youth.[2][3] They won the International Youth Tournament seven times, including the first contest in 1948, and four times in five years in the 1970s.[4] After the tournament was renamed to the European Under-18 Championship, England won twice more, in 1980[5] and 1993.[6] In 2001, eligibility rules changed and the competition was rebranded as the UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Nowadays, the under-18 banner is used for participation in international friendlies. The 2017 Toulon Tournament was also composed largely of under-18 players.[7][8] PlayersLatest squadFor the 2018–19 season, players born on or after 1 January 2001 are eligible. Players born between January and August 2001 are second-year scholars in the English academy system, players born between September 2001 and August 2002 are first-year scholars. The following players were named in the squad for games against Japan, Czech Republic and Mexico, played in March 2019.[9]{{cite web|title=The Young Lions Were Victorious In Their Opening Game In Dubai With A 4-1 Over Japan|url=http://www.thefa.com/news/2019/mar/20/england-u18s-4-1-japan-report-200319|publisher=The Football Association|date=20 March 2019|accessdate=20 March 2019}} Names in bold denote players who have been capped by England in a higher age group.{{nat fs start no caps}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=GK|name={{sortname|Luca|Ashby-Hammond|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|3|25|df=y}}[10]|club=Fulham|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=GK|name={{sortname|Josh|Griffiths|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|9|5|df=y}}[11]|club=West Bromwich Albion|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=GK|name={{sortname|George|Wickens|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|11|8|df=y}}[12]|club=Fulham|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs break}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Luis|Binks|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|9|2|df=y}}[13]|club=Tottenham Hotspur|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Dylan|Crowe|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|4|13|df=y}}[14]|club=Ipswich Town|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Vontae|Daley-Campbell|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|4|2|df=y}}[15]|club=Arsenal|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Cody|Drameh|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|12|8|df=y}}[16]|club=Fulham|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Ethan|Laird|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|8|5|df=y}}[17]|club=Manchester United|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Edmond-Paris|Maghoma|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|5|8|df=y}}[18]|club=Tottenham Hotspur|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=DF|name={{sortname|Rhys|Williams|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|2|3|df=y}}[19]|club=Liverpool|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs break}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Tommy|Doyle|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|10|17|df=y}}[20]|club=Manchester City|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|James|Garner|dab=footballer, born 2001}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|3|13|df=y}}|club=Manchester United|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Curtis|Jones|dab=footballer}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|1|30|df=y}}[21]|club=Liverpool|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Clinton|Mola|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|3|15|df=y}}[22]|club=Chelsea|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Luke|Thomas|nolink=1}}|age=-|club=Leicester City|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Jacob|Ramsey|nolink=1}}|age=-|club=Aston Villa|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=MF|name={{sortname|Bali|Mumba}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|10|1|df=y}}|club=Sunderland|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs break}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=FW|name={{sortname|Folarin|Balogun|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|7|3|df=y}}[23]|club=Arsenal|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=FW|name={{sortname|Bobby|Duncan|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|6|25|df=y}}[24]|club=Liverpool|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=FW|name={{sortname|Anthony|Gordon|dab=footballer}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|2|24|df=y}}|club=Everton|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs player no caps|no=-|pos=FW|name={{sortname|Morgan|Whittaker|nolink=1}}|age=-|club=Derby County|clubnat=ENG}}{{nat fs end}}Recent call-upsThe following players have previously been called up to the England under-18 squad and remain eligible. {{nat fs r start}}{{nat fs r player|pos=GK|name={{sortname|Marcus|Dewhurst|nolink=1}}|age={{birth date and age|2001|3|20|df=y}}|club=Sheffield United|clubnat=ENG|caps=-|goals=-|latest=v.
