The 2010 census reported 9,890 people living in the township,[3] 4,101 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township.[4] GeographyLocated in the northeastern part of the county, it borders the following townships:

NameIt is one of seven Fairfield Townships statewide.[5] History{{US Census population|1980= 8996 |1990= 8981 |2000= 9583 |2010= 9890 |estyear=2017 |estimate=9602 |estref=[6] |footnote=U.S. Decennial Census[7] }} The township was organized in 1806.[8] The first permanent settler was known to be Mathias Lower who emigrated from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1800.[9] GovernmentThe township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[10] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
