As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,368 and it contained 691 housing units.[3] HistoryFairfield Township was founded in 1844.[4] The Maria and Franklin Wiltrout Polygonal Barn was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.[5] GeographyAccording to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of {{convert|35.98|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|35.66|sqmi}} (or 99.11%) is land and {{convert|0.31|sqmi}} (or 0.86%) is water.[3] Indian Lake, Lower Story Lake and Upper Story Lake are in this township.
