The lake is about 152 kilometres east of Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Ontario border.[1][2] The lake is named for Métis poet and songwriter Pierre Falcon (1793-1876).[3] It is known in Ufology for the May 20, 1967 UFO sighting known as the Falcon Lake Incident.[4] The 2010 album The Falcon Lake Incident was recorded at a cottage on Falcon Lake by Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Bryson.[5] The lake inspired the name of TV series Falcon Beach although that fictional location is set on another Manitoba Lake. The lake was also a favourite summer destination of Neil Young, who wrote a song entitled "Falcon Lake" while with the Buffalo Springfield. ClimateUnder the Köppen climatic classification Falcon Lake has a humid continental climate with warm and sometimes hot summers and extremely cold winters. {{Weather box|width=auto|location = Falcon Lake |metric first = yes |single line = yes |Jan record high C = 8.3 |Feb record high C = 11.5 |Mar record high C = 19.4 |Apr record high C = 32 |May record high C = 34 |Jun record high C = 38 |Jul record high C = 36.7 |Aug record high C = 36 |Sep record high C = 35 |Oct record high C = 28.5 |Nov record high C = 23.9 |Dec record high C = 9.5 |year record high C =38 |Jan high C = -11.8 |Feb high C = -7.2 |Mar high C = 0.5 |Apr high C = 9.9 |May high C = 18.4 |Jun high C = 22.8 |Jul high C = 25.5 |Aug high C = 24 |Sep high C = 17.7 |Oct high C = 10.3 |Nov high C = -0.9 |Dec high C = -10.1 |year high C = 8.3 |Jan mean C = -18.3 |Feb mean C = -14.2 |Mar mean C = -6 |Apr mean C = 3.1 |May mean C = 11.1 |Jun mean C = 15.9 |Jul mean C = 18.7 |Aug mean C = 17.2 |Sep mean C = 11.2 |Oct mean C = 5 |Nov mean C = -5.6 |Dec mean C = -15.6 |year mean C = 1.9 |Jan low C = -24.7 |Feb low C = -21.1 |Mar low C = -12.5 |Apr low C = -3.8 |May low C = 3.7 |Jun low C = 9 |Jul low C = 11.9 |Aug low C = 10.3 |Sep low C = 4.7 |Oct low C = -0.5 |Nov low C = -10.1 |Dec low C = -21.2 |year low C = -4.5 |Jan record low C = -45 |Feb record low C = -45 |Mar record low C = -41.1 |Apr record low C = -30 |May record low C = -12.5 |Jun record low C = -3 |Jul record low C = -1.7 |Aug record low C = -4 |Sep record low C = -7.8 |Oct record low C = -20.6 |Nov record low C = -39 |Dec record low C = -42 |year record low C = -45 |Jan precipitation mm = 26.6 |Feb precipitation mm = 16.3 |Mar precipitation mm = 21.8 |Apr precipitation mm = 25.2 |May precipitation mm = 57 |Jun precipitation mm = 91.6 |Jul precipitation mm = 89.6 |Aug precipitation mm = 68.8 |Sep precipitation mm = 55.6 |Oct precipitation mm = 46.6 |Nov precipitation mm = 34.9 |Dec precipitation mm = 27.3 |year precipitation mm = 561.3 |source 1 = Environment Canada[6] |date=April 2011 }} GallerySee also
