The name "Flanor" is an acronym: Felicitatem Librorum Amor Nobis Originalem Reddit (meaning: the love for books brings us back to the origin of happiness). HistorySince 1980 a small group of young students and researchers gathered to discuss each other's findings when reading and researching (mostly) Dutch literature. Their group name was Flanor, after a person of literary nineteenth century Dutch fiction. After a while they expressed their wish to publish their findings in such a way others could benefit. That was the start of Flanor as a publishing house. The company specialized in publishing literature and literary research. The literary-historical and (auto)biographical texts which Flanor publishes circle just outside the mainstream.
