The Foundation for Focused Ultrasound Research (FFUS) is an American non-profit 501(c)(3) charity designed to promote both education and research within the area of medical applications of focused ultrasound (HIFU). HistoryThe Foundation was formed on the third of January in 2005, and received charity status in November of the same year. In October 2005 the Foundation hosted the 5th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound, at Harvard Medical School, which resulted in the largest-ever gathering of world experts in the use of ultrasound for the treatment of cancer and other disorders. Under the Foundation's charter it operates as an unincorporated association. ActivitiesThe Foundation compiles and reports on web-based news related to focused ultrasound in therapeutic and diagnostic medicine, organizes and assists with symposia, discussions, and meetings pertaining to diagnostic and therapeutic focused ultrasound as well as student-related research programs. There is a strong concentration in high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). The Association promotes collaborations between clinical and research groups via written and oral communication. See also
