Member of the legislatureTrudel was elected as a Conservative candidate to the provincial legislature in the district of Champlain in 1871. He co-authored the Programme Catholique and was an Ultramontanist. He did not run for re-election in 1875. SenatorHe was appointed to the Canadian Senate in 1873. He joined Honoré Mercier's Parti National for a short period of time, but eventually became Conservative again. Personal lifeHe married a daughter of Louis Renaud in 1864 and produced four sons. She later sued for divorce, but was unsuccessful.
