Founded in 1951, GIS is one of the oldest and most prestigious private schools in Malaysia.[1][2][3] GIS is part of the Taylor's Education Group and a member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). GIS provides British-based education for students ages 3 to 18 years old from Early Years Centre (Pre-School) to Primary School (Year 1 to Year 6) and Secondary School (Year 7 to Year 13). GIS is one of the biggest private co-educational schools in Malaysia, with a roll of around 2,200 students. Accredited by the Council of International Schools, GIS offers the British National Curriculum, including providing IGCSE and A Levels examinations. HistoryOriginsFounded in 1951 as Garden School, the school was established by Sally Watkins, the wife of Kuala Lumpur Fire Brigade Chief Lt. Col. F.F.C. Watkins, in the Lake Gardens of Kuala Lumpur. Garden School was the first school catered to expatriates in the Federation of Malaya.[4] Campus locationThe school moved to Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur in 1955 due to a rapidly expanding roll[4] and, after several moves to locations around the Klang Valley, moved to the present location in Mont Kiara in 1996.[5] International examinationsIn 1966, Garden School was selected as the first school in Malaysia for the University of London's General Certificate of Education examination.[6] Academic informationEarly Years CentreGarden International School's Early Years Centre (EYC) is a preschool with a customised curriculum for local & international students. Primary schoolGarden International School's Primary School provides an international, British-based curriculum for students. Science, History, Geography and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) are taught by classroom teachers, alongside specialist teachers supporting the teaching of Art, Design and Technology, Music, ICT, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages. Secondary schoolGIS' Secondary School students follow a full range of courses leading to International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examinations. Similar to the structure of most international schools providing British-based curricula, students choose a range of subjects suited to the individual. At sixth form level, the school offers AS & A-Level (both Cambridge International Examinations & Edexcel) courses.[7] The school follows University of Cambridge International Examinations based curriculum for upper years, with students sitting IGCSE after two years of study in Year 10 and 11; and sixth form sitting A-Level exams after 2 years of study in years 12 and 13. In recent years, some subjects have chosen to take Edexcel in place of CIE, such as GCSE PE, A-Level Mathematics, Drama & Theatre Studies and Psychology. In terms of academic performance, GIS' Secondary School is one Asia's top performing A-Level international schools, with 60% of graduates going to the world's top 100 universities.[8][9] StaffThe principal of Garden International School is Mark Ford, the Head of Secondary is Matt Corbett and the Head of Primary is Colter Watt. The school employs over 80% of expatriate teachers, mostly originating from Britain and Australia. In addition to the large teaching staff, the school employs administrative staff, counsellors and student service staff. Notable alumni

}} Student lifeHousesThere are four houses in GIS – Chancellor, Sultan, Queen and Crest. Each house has a colour: Chancellor is Green, Sultan is Red, Queen is Blue and Crest is Yellow. They also have certain mascots. The Chancellor mascot is a lion with two keys going diagonally behind its back, the Crest one is an eagle, Sultan the letter ‘S’ and the Queen the letter ‘Q’. There are competitions between the four houses, and there are two main sports events that showcase the strong rivalries (Swim Gala & Sports Day). Along with these two, there are other competitions between the houses, such as the weekly Inter-House and merits competitions. Whilst previously only academic and sporting competitions were accounted for, in recent years the school instituted an arts competition as well (Eisteddfod). New students will be allocated to a random house. But if new students have a sibling whom joined first, they will, most of the time, be in the same house as their sibling(s). SportsGarden International School has a proud sporting tradition. Representative teams come under the banner of Dragons. Dragons sports include: Football, basketball, swimming, rugby, touch rugby, cross country, netball, athletics, t-ball, tennis, golf, badminton and triathlon. Dragons age groups range from Under 9 to Under 18 with over 60 teams. The school is a key member of ISAC, participating in weekly league fixtures and hosting weekend tournaments in Kuala Lumpur. As a member of SEASAC, Dragons senior teams attend tournaments in Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Bangkok, participating in a wide range of sports. Dragons teams are also supplemented by the GISKL Sports Academy (open to all) held after CCA time and on weekends. These are sessions run by external qualified coaches and cover sports such as golf, football, tennis, swimming, netball, badminton and martial arts. School calendarGarden International School's academic year begins beginning of August. There are three terms, and with each term there is a mid-term break of 1–2 weeks. These usually coincide with holidays such as Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Deepavali in the first term, Chinese New Year in the second term and in the third term it does not coincide with any holiday. The full-length term breaks sometimes coincide with holidays such as Christmas in the first term, Easter in the second term, and at the end of the third term, the academic year ends Summer. Christmas and Easter holidays are usually around 2–3 weeks. Summer, however is usually 6–7 weeks, beginning in mid-July and ending at the end of August or beginning of September. Sometimes school does not begin on a Monday, if there is a public holiday on 31 August, Hari Merdeka or Independence Day for Malaysia. Examination periods usually occurs in May and June, usually taking up one week for lower secondary school (Years 7–9) and two weeks for upper secondary school (Years 10–13).
