It is devoted to the Hindu god Vishnu, and his mount, Garuda, the mythical bird who became his companion. Planned to be established as a landmark or mascot of Bali, construction of the giant statue of Vishnu riding his mount Garuda, as high as 120 metres was completed in August 2018. Daily schedule of activitiesThe park has a land area of about 60 hectares and is located at an altitude 263 metres above sea level.[1] In the area there is also a statue of Garuda which is directly behind the Plaza Wisnu. Garuda Plaza is where the Garuda statue as high as 18 meters is placed temporarily. Garuda Plaza is the focal point of a large corridor of carved limestone pillars covering over 4000 square meters of open space i.e. Lotus Pond. With a space capacity capable of accommodating up to 7,000 people, Lotus Pond has earned a reputation as a venue for holding major events and international events. There is also a statue of Vishnu's hand which is part of the statue of Lord Vishnu. The GWK Cultural Park is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The entry fee for domestic tourists is Rp 80,000 for adults and Rp 60,000 for students and children. For foreigners, entrance costs Rp 125,000 for adults and Rp 100,000 for children. The Amphitheater of the park has reliefs depicting Garuda Wisnu’s story in front of it. The Lotus Pond also has large statues with descriptions engraved on them. GWK Cultural Park arranges seven dance performances every day for visitors. The dances shown are Balinese, Keris Barong, Nusantara, Garuda Wisnu Ballet and Kecak Garuda Wisnu, with the first performance scheduled at 10 a.m. and the final one at 6:30 p.m. Every day, it attracts "up to 3,000 visitors". Visitors can also watch a film at the Garuda Cinema. The cinema opens every day at 11 a.m., showing a 35-minute animated film titled Garuda Cilik Adventure. Every Monday starting at 7 p.m. visitors can enjoy food from a food truck accompanied by live music and a fire dance. Other performances include a salsa dance at Reato Jendela Bali on Friday at 7 p.m., acoustic music at the Street Theater on Saturday at 3 p.m. and a full moon celebration at Plaza Wisnu at 4 p.m. every month. [2] The park’s management provides a shuttle bus service named GWK Loop to facilitate visitors to watch the large statues located in and around the park. Ticket costs Rp 20,000 (US$1.38) per person. Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue{{main|Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue}}Designed to be the Indonesia’s tallest statue, Garuda Wisnu Kencana was inspired by Hindu mythology about the search for Amerta (the elixir of life). According to this myth, Garuda agreed to be ridden by Lord Wisnu in return for the right to use the elixir to liberate his enslaved mother. The idea for the monument was not without controversy, and religious authorities on the island complained that its massive size might disrupt the spiritual balance of the island, and that its commercial nature was inappropriate, but some groups agree with the project, because it will be a new tourist attraction on barren land.[3] The 75-m tall, 65-m wide statue was designed by Nyoman Nuarta.[4] It sits atop a pedestal to bring the total height of the monument to {{cvt|121|m}}, which is nearly {{cvt|30|m}} taller than the Statue of Liberty in the United States. The completed monument is about as tall as a 21-storey building. It weighs 4000 tonnes, making it the heaviest statue in the country. The statue is made of copper and brass sheeting, with a stainless steel frame and skeleton, as well as a steel and concrete core column. The outer covering measures {{val|22000|u=m2}} in area. The crown of Wisnu is covered with golden mosaics and the statue has a dedicated lighting arrangement. The monument was completed on 31 July 2018 and inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on 22 September, 2018.[5][5] Multi role siteThe site has hosted some large-scale and international events.[6]
