Vanneck was the eldest son of Sir Joshua Vanneck, 1st Baronet, and his wife, Mary Anne Daubuz. His father was a successful London merchant who had emigrated to Great Britain from the Netherlands in 1722.[2] He was elected to the House of Commons for Dunwich in 1768, a seat he held until 1790. In 1777 he succeeded his father as second Baronet and promptly commissioned the building of Heveningham Hall in Suffolk.[2] Vanneck died, unmarried, in May 1791 and was succeeded in the baronetcy by his younger brother Joshua, who was elevated to the peerage as Baron Huntingfield in 1796.[2] References1. ^London, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 {{S-start}}{{s-par|gb}}{{succession box2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|url=http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1754-1790/member/vanneck-gerard-william-1743-91|title=VANNECK, Gerard William (?1743-91), of Heveningham Hall, Suff.|publisher=History of Parliament Online|accessdate=9 March 2018}} | title = Member of Parliament for Dunwich | years = 1768–1790 | with = Miles Barne 1768–77 | with2 = Barne Barne 1777–90 | before = Eliab Harvey | before2= Miles Barne | after = Barne Barne | after2 = Joshua Vanneck }}{{s-reg|gb-bt}}{{succession box | title=Baronet (of Putney) | years= | before=Joshua Vanneck | after=Joshua Vanneck}}{{S-end}}{{Use dmy dates|date=January 2012}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Vanneck, Gerard, 2nd Baronet}} 9 : 1743 births|1791 deaths|Baronets in the Baronetage of Great Britain|Members of the Parliament of Great Britain for English constituencies|English people of Dutch descent|British MPs 1768–74|British MPs 1774–80|British MPs 1780–84|British MPs 1784–90 |
