The station is currently closed to passengers. The station was built for the Dublin and Antrim Junction Railway and opened on 13 November 1871.[1] Translink withdrew passenger services from the line when it reopened the more direct {{rws|Belfast Central}} – {{rws|Antrim}} route via {{rws|Bleach Green}}. Translink stated that it was unable to maintain two routes to Antrim and after operating a skeleton service on the route announced that it would be mothballed. The line could be revived under plans to operate a Belfast – {{rws|Lisburn}} – Antrim – Belfast circular route.{{citation needed|date=September 2011}} {{s-start|noclear=y}}{{s-rail|title=NIR}}{{rail line|previous={{rws|Ballinderry}} |next=Crumlin |route=Northern Ireland RailwaysLisburn – Antrim (disused)|col=0072BC}}{{s-end}} References1. ^{{cite web |title=Glenavy station |work=Railscot - Irish Railways |url=http://www.railscot.co.uk/Ireland/Irish_railways.pdf |accessdate=2007-08-28}} {{UK railway stations}}{{Future Irish stations}}{{coord|54|35|20|N|6|12|55|W|type:railwaystation_region:GB|display=title}}{{NorthernIreland-railstation-stub}} 2 : Disused railway stations in County Antrim|Railway stations opened in 1871 |
