At the 2006 census, Glendambo had a population of 77.[8][9] The name of the town was approved by the Geographical Names Board on 13 May 1982 and was derived from the Glendambo Homestead. Boundaries for the locality were established on 23 October 2003 and include both the homestead and the Government Town of Glendambo.[2][10] As of 2004, the locality was described as follows:[11] Located 592 km from Adelaide and 186 km north of Port Augusta on the Stuart Highway, Glendambo is an important stopping point on the Stuart Highway as, if you are travelling north, there are no more facilities for 254 km until you reach Coober Pedy. With a population of around 30 people and an annual rainfall of only 185 mm it will never grow into a major centre. It is a comprehensive roadside stopping point with a caravan park, a hotel-motel, a licensed restaurant, roadhouse and general store. Glendambo is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Giles, the Pastoral Unincorporated Area of South Australia and the state’s Far North region.[5][6][4][2] In the absence of a local government authority, the community in Glendambo receives municipal services from a state government agency, the Outback Communities Authority.[12] References1. ^{{Census 2006 AUS|id=SSC43631|name=Glendambo (State Suburb) |accessdate=30 July 2011|quick=on}} 2. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite web|title=Search result for "Glendambo (LOCB)" (Record no SA0026463) with the following layers selected - "Suburbs and Localities", "Place names (gazetteer)" and "Road Labels" |url=http://maps.sa.gov.au/plb/#|work=Property Location Browser |publisher=Government of South Australia|accessdate=22 September 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Glendambo Postcode|url= http://auspost.com.au/postcode/glendambo |publisher=Australia Post|accessdate=23 September 2016}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|title=Far North SA government region|url=http://www.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/6905/Far_North_SA_Government_region.pdf|publisher=The Government of South Australia|accessdate=16 August 2015}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|title=District of Giles Background Profile|url= http://www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/component/edocman/?task=document.download&id=500&Itemid=0 |publisher=ELECTORAL COMMISSION SA|accessdate=20 August 2015}} 6. ^1 {{cite web|title=Federal electoral division of Grey, boundary gazetted 16 December 2011|url= http://www.aec.gov.au/profiles/sa/files/2011/2011-aec-a4-map-sa-grey.pdf |publisher=Australian Electoral Commission|accessdate=20 August 2015}} 7. ^{{cite web|title=Monthly climate statistics: Summary statistics Woomera Aerodrome (nearest weather station) |url= http://reg.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_016001.shtml |publisher=Commonwealth of Australia , Bureau of Meteorology|accessdate=20 September 2016}} 8. ^Census in Australia#2006 9. ^http://www.southaustralia.com/info.aspx?id=9002308&rs=b|AU|AU 10. ^{{cite journal|title=Geographical Names Act 1991 - Notice to Assign Names and Boundaries to Places |url=http://www.governmentgazette.sa.gov.au/2003/october/2003_101.pdf |journal=The South Australian Government Gazette |publisher=The Government of South Australia |date=23 October 2003 |page=3859 |accessdate=23 September 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110406090722/http://www.governmentgazette.sa.gov.au/2003/October/2003_101.pdf |archivedate=6 April 2011 |df=dmy }} 11. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.smh.com.au/news/South-Australia/Glendambo/2005/02/17/1108500204266.html|title=Glendambo|publisher=Sydney Morning Herald|date=8 February 2004|accessdate=23 September 2016}} 12. ^{{cite web|title=Communities (serviced by the Outback Communities Authority) |url=http://www.oca.sa.gov.au/?q=communitieshome |publisher=Outback Communities Authority |accessdate=23 September 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160302074648/http://www.oca.sa.gov.au/?q=communitieshome |archivedate=2 March 2016 |df=dmy }} External links
