Its seat is the town of Leśna, which lies approximately {{convert|11|km|mi|0}} south of Lubań, and {{convert|125|km|mi|0}} west of the regional capital Wrocław. The gmina covers an area of {{convert|104.5|km2|sqmi|1}}, and as of 2006 its total population is 10,739 (out of which the population of Leśna amounts to 4,752, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 5,987). Neighbouring gminasGmina Leśna is bordered by the town of Świeradów-Zdrój and the gminas of Gryfów Śląski, Lubań, Mirsk, Olszyna and Platerówka. It also borders the Czech Republic.
