The album was released in 1984 while Fleetwood Mac was on a hiatus between albums. It reached #45 on the US Billboard album chart. The album was dedicated to a former girlfriend, Carol Ann Harris, with whom he had just ended a relationship. ContentGo Insane features the title track, Buckingham's second top 40 hit. It also features "Slow Dancing," which was also released as a single. "D.W. Suite" was written for Dennis Wilson, who died the December before the album was released. Buckingham had always been a big Beach Boys fan. Dennis Wilson was engaged to Christine McVie from 1978 to 1980. "Play in the Rain" is a seven minute song split into two parts - one on the end of the first side and one on the beginning of the second side. On the vinyl version, there is a "locked groove" at the end of Side One on the song "Play in the Rain". This allows the closing section of the song to play until the needle reaches the label of the record. It is different than Law and Order as in the fact that it has a much more electronic sound, caused by the use of drum machines, keyboards and sound effects. Lindsey Buckingham plays all the instruments on the album except for "I Want You" and "Go Insane." ReleaseGo Insane was released on July 3, 1984. It went to #45 in the U.S. It was not as successful as its predecessor, Law and Order, but was still successful. The album has gotten positive reviews.[1]Track listingAll tracks composed by Lindsey Buckingham; except where indicated {{Track listing|title1 = I Want You |note1 - Buckingham, Gordon Fordyce |length1 = 3:18 |title2 = Go Insane |length2 = 3:08 |title3 = Slow Dancing |length3 = 4:05 |title4 = I Must Go |length4 = 4:51 |title5 = Play in the Rain |length5 = 3:21 |title6 = Play in the Rain (Continued) |length6 = 4:14 |title7 = Loving Cup |length7 = 5:02 |title8 = Bang the Drum |length8 = 3:31 |title9 = D.W.
