He was capable of playing in attack if called upon to do so. Turner was a member of the All Whites at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, where they lost all 3 group games to Scotland, USSR and Brazil, but did not play in the finals due to an injury sustained soon after arrival in Spain.[3] Club history
