Sharp was educated at Cleckheaton Grammar School, Ashville College in Harrogate, and the St John's College, Cambridge. He became joint owner of his father's outfitters, and from 1928 until 1934 also served as a lecturer at the W. R. Technical Institute. He returned to politics in 1970, serving on East Sussex County Council, then from 1973 on both West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite book |last1=Stenton |first1=Michael |last2=Lees |first2=Stephen |title=Who's Who of British Members of Parliament |volume=IV |date=1981 |publisher=Harvester Press |location=Brighton |page=331}}
