It is endemic to Colombia. TaxonomyThe greyish piculet is part of a superspecies with the olivaceous piculet, and may even be conspecific, or the same species. There are two described subspecies: P. g. antioquensis in the northern part and P. g. granadensis in the southern part of the range. Description & BehaviorA small woodpecker. Black cap with yellow dots. Blackish superciliary. HabitatIts natural habitats are tropical dry forest, subtropical moist forests, shade coffee plantations and heavily degraded former forest. DistributionMostly found in the Cauca River Valley. The northern most limited extends into southern Antioquia and reaches south to Nariño in the Patía River Valley. The center of the population is around the city of Cali in Valle del Cauca.
