There are currently nine clubs based in the competition playing across the four senior grades, including women's league tag and a total of 15 clubs fielding sides in several junior grades.[2]OverviewGroup 10 comprises nine teams from seven towns across the Central West, with four grades - premier league, first division, under 18s and women's league tag. Nine teams have taken part in competitions since the start of the 2013, after the re-admittance of the Blayney Bears[3]. Games are usually held on Sundays, however, there are games occasionally held on Saturday. Games have even been held on Friday nights, most recently the Bathurst derby between Panthers and St Pat's in 2017.[4] The current season format consists of eighteen rounds, with each team playing each other twice and each team having two byes. The top five teams then play-off to the McIntyre final five system, culminating in the grand final which is held at the home ground of the major semi-final winner. Orange CYMS have proved to be the dominant force in the competition, since the arrival of captain-coach Michael Sullivan in 2010. CYMS have only failed to make the grand once, in 2014, since the arrival of Sullivan. Sullivan left CYMS at the end of 2018, joining junior club Wingham in Group 3 Rugby League. Former NRL players to play in Group 10 in recent times include Luke Branighan and Josh Starling, both for Oberon, and Chris Gresvmuhl and Michael Sullivan, both for CYMS. Former Manly forward George Rose played one season for Oberon in 2016[5]. NSW legend Mark O'Meley played a one-off game for St Pat's in 2016[6]. The current Group 10 Premier League trophy was formerly the Western Challenge Cup, competed for by teams in the Eastern and Western Zones of Group 10. Before the formation of Group 10 in 1948, this was the premier trophy for rugby league teams to compete for. There were three other trophies for all the district teams to compete for as well, the Western Cinemas Cup, the Mockler Cup and the Lackersteen Cup. The current Group 10 premiership trophy was donated by former state member for Willoughby and NSWRL secretary Edward Larkin. Lithgow Shamrocks joined the competition in 1966, replacing Lithgow Small Arms Factory. They had success in the 1980s, winning three premierships but folded in 2000.[7] Portland Colts and Kandos Waratahs also competed in the competition, but now currently play in the Mid West Cup. In 2018, Bathurst Panthers broke an 11-year premiership drought when it defeated hosts Cowra Magpies in the grand final. The match will be remembered for Panthers' winger Willie Wright's conversation. With the scores locked at 10-all, he slotted the kick from the sideline with minutes remaining to seal Panthers third premiership in the 21st century.
