Established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly known as Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly, was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983. GGV is an active member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. The National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the University as B+ . Situated in a socially and economically challenged area, the university is appropriately named to honor the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas (born in the 17th century), who championed the cause of the downtrodden and waged a relentless struggle against all forms of social evils and injustice prevailing in the society. It was named after Guru Ghasidas, the founder of the Satnami movement in the region. The jurisdiction of the university is spread across the Bilaspur Revenue Division. It covers almost the entire spectrum of the higher education requirements of the local people. It has several University Teaching Department (UTDs) on its campuses. CampusGuru Ghasidas University campus spread over an area of {{convert|700|acre|km2}}, five kilometres from the main Bilaspur town. River Arpa runs parallel to the university campus. HistoryGuru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya established as 9th state university of undivided Madhya Pradesh on 16 June 1983 by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly. It was established in 1997. Currently, institute offers Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology and Ph.D in various engineering disciplines. Admissions to B.Tech is done on the basis of merit obtained by the candidate in JEE-main. Department of LawThe Department of Law offers two five-year integrated BA LLB and B.Com LLB. National Centre for Accelerator Based ResearchGGV is going to establish a 3.0 MV pelletron accelerator(9SDH-4, NEC).[1][2][3] This is accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Board of Research in Nuclear Science, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and the University, which is for setting a Special Scientific Centre in the campus with the name "National Centre for Accelerator-based Research"(in short NCAR).[4] This inter-disciplinary research facility is related to atomic energy, it would help to create skilled manpower required for nuclear plants. NCAR will be the first of its kind in entire Central India.[4] The machine have already reached from National Electrostatics Corporation, United States.[5] The process of developing necessary infrastructure is going on. NCAR organized two days national workshop on particle accelerator under the aegis of Indian Society of Particle Accelerator(ISPA) on February 18–19, 2014.[6][7] LibraryThe Central Library of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya comprises more than 105000 books, 3950 back volumes of journals and 1100 Ph.D. theses.[8] This library has a well Wi-Fi system along with a sufficient number computers for free access. Along with Central library, departments of GGV have their separate Departmental libraries. Residential student hallsGGV is a non-residential institution.[9] There are only two hostels at GGV, two for boys and one for girls. Hostels have facilities as vegetarian mess, gymnasium, play grounds, reading room, TV room etc. There is Internet Facility in Hostels. They have a good academic environment for students.
