Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) ({{zh|s=杭州电子科技大学|t=杭州電子科技大學|p=Hángzhōu diànzǐ kējì dàxué}}) is a university in Hangzhou, China. It was founded in 1956 as the second public university in Zhejiang Province. It was formerly named Hangzhou Institute of Electrical Engineering and was renamed in 2004.

History

March 1956, to create Hangzhou Aviation Industry Finance School, attached to the Second Machinery Industry Department.

June 1958, the school changed its name to Hangzhou Aviation Industry School, under the Ministry of Machinery Industry.

December 1958, the school decentralized, and Zhejiang Machinery College (now Zhejiang Vocational and Technical College of Electrical) Motor Division merger Zhejiang Electrical College, under the Zhejiang Provincial Machinery Agency.

1961 April, changed its name to Zhejiang Machinery Industry School, under the Zhejiang Provincial Machinery Department.

November 1962, the Central Recycling, under the Third Machinery Industry Department.

March 1963, under the management of the Fourth Machinery Industry.

January 1965, changed its name to Hangzhou Radio Industry Management School, under the Fourth Machinery Industry Department.

February 1970, the school changed its factory, changed its name to Xuejun Machine Factory, under the Fourth Machinery Industry Department.

May 1973, the Central Government approved the resumption of schools, the establishment of Hangzhou Radio Industry School, under the Fourth Machinery Industry Department.

May 8, 1980, the State Council formally approved the establishment of Hangzhou Institute of Electronics Industry, management system as "the implementation of the Fourth Machinery Industry Department, Zhejiang Province, dual leadership, departmental leadership."

In 1981, began to recruit master's students.

In 1990, became a master's degree awarded unit.

In 1996, with the former Hangzhou University jointly declared "circuit and system" doctoral approved.

In 1997, the Ministry of Electronics Industry and Zhejiang Province signed an agreement to build Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology.

May 2000, the school management system to implement major changes, the implementation of "provincial and ministerial co-built, province-based" management system; and Zhejiang Province as a key construction teaching research university.

In 2003, the former Hangzhou Publishing School was incorporated as a whole; [9] Approved by the Ministry of Education to become a joint doctoral training unit.

May 2004, Hangzhou Institute of Electronic Industry changed its name to Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology.

In 2007, the former National Defense Science and Technology Industrial Committee (the predecessor of National Defense Science and Technology Industrial Bureau) and Zhejiang Provincial People's Government signed an agreement for the first time to build Hangzhou Dianzi University.

In 2009, the school became an authorized construction unit for the grant of new doctoral degrees.

In March 2011, Zhejiang Provincial People's Government signed an agreement with the National Defense Science and Technology Industrial Bureau to continue building Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period.

In 2015, it was listed as a key construction university in Zhejiang Province.

In 2016, the National Defense Science and Technology Industrial Bureau and Zhejiang Provincial People's Government continued to build Hangzhou Dianzi University during the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period.

In 2017 August, approved as a graduate student push unit.

Academics

HDU is administered directly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the provincial government. It emphasizes the disciplines of engineering, economics, sciences, and arts. It has more than 40 research institutions and enrolls 28,000 students with 2,200 faculty and staff. The university has completed a host of high-tech research projects and province- or ministry-sponsored research projects, many of which were awarded the National First/Second Prize for Scientific and Technology Progress, the National Invention Prize, and the National Pedagogical Achievement Prize.

HDU is among the top universities in China in the postgraduate program admission rate and the successful employment rate for its graduates.

In 2013, HDU started to cooperate with The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and organized its own ACCA-based-course program. The program enrolled large quantities of talented students, and helped many of them enter Big Four accounting firms successfully, making it elite program in the university.

The university is known as "The Cradle of Entrepreneurs" in China and has an extensive entrepreneurial network worldwide.{{citation needed|date=August 2017}}
