According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 5,545 of which 2,451 live in the town of Hanönü.[1][2] The district covers an area of {{convert|359|km2|sqmi|0|abbr=on}},[3] and the town lies at an elevation of {{convert|487|m|ft|0|abbr=on}}.
