It is a confrontational song about starting a fight. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock (one week on July 26, 2003) and Modern Rock (five weeks on May 31, 2003) charts and No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as No. 1 on the singles recurrent charts. It crossed over to mainstream pop radio, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40. The song also won two Billboard Music Awards in 2003 for "Best Modern Rock Track" and "Best Rock Track". "Headstrong" was rated the No. 1 alternative song and No. 8 rock song of the decade of the 2000s by Billboard.[https://web.archive.org/web/20100114193935/http://www.billboard.com//] In 2018, an official poll by Ultimate Guitar saw the site's users rate "Headstrong" as having the fourth worst riff of all time.[1] Music videoA music video was produced for "Headstrong" which largely focuses on the band performing in front of a crowd. Paper and other debris are seen flying past in furious winds as the group plays in an urban nighttime setting. The video found considerable airplay on MTV2 and MMUSA upon release. The video was directed by Brian Scott Weber. Appearances"Headstrong" was featured the video games NHL 2003 and Legends of Wrestling II in 2002, MX Unleashed in 2004, Donkey Konga 2: Hit Song Parade! and Karaoke Revolution Party in 2005, and as a downloadable track for Warriors of Rock in 2011. It was also covered by Kidz Bop. "Headstrong" was also in the films Grind in 2003 and Never Back Down in 2008, and was used in previews for the Bruce Willis film Tears of the Sun and a trailer for the movie Æon Flux. It also served as Seth Skyfire and Shelly Martinez's entrance music while in Ohio Valley Wrestling as well as the theme song for WWE Bad Blood 2003. It was also used to introduce the starting players for the Philadelphia Phantoms. It is the current television introduction theme for TKO Major League MMA, a Canadian MMA organization. The song was used as the introduction theme to the Shinhan Bank Starleague in 2005. The New Jersey Devils also used this song in their 2003 Stanley Cup Championship video. The Tampa Bay Lightning mixed this song with highlights from their playoff run in 2003–2004 season (Tampa Bay ended up winning the Stanley Cup that year). The song was also used as the introduction to the first season of Nopi Tunervision which featured Dalene Curtis as the host. The song appeared in a commercial for the premiere of the new season of Pros vs. Joes on Spike TV. In fall 2012, it was also used in a commercial for the season premiere of CMT's Redneck Island.
