He is credited with establishing the Washin-Ryu style of karate in the United States in 1966.[1] He was the winner of the United States Grand National Karate Championship five consecutive times.[2]Ochiai was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame twice—as Instructor of the Year for Japanese Arts in 1979 and as Man of the Year in 1980.[3] He resides in Vestal, New York Books authoredOchiai is the author of several self-defense books, and has also translated Miyamoto Musashi's The Book of Five Rings.
