Hinduism is practised by 0.3% of the people in Italy.lt is practised by 0.1% of the Italian citizens and 2.9% of the immigrant population.[1] It is also the fastest growing religion in Italy.[2] There are approximately 177,200[3] Hindus in Italy .Of which 30,392 are Italian citizens and 146,800 are foreign residents .[4] Unione Induista Italia (UII) (Italian Hindu Union) exists in Italy led by Swami Yogananda Giri. Official recognition as a religionHindus are pressing for official recognition in Italy. UII has signed in 2007 an Intente with the Italian government. The document was then waiting for approval by the Italian Parliament. Hinduism was granted official recognition by the Italian Parliament in 2012 alongside Buddhism.[5]On 11 December 2012, the Italian Parliament ratifies an official Agreement (Intesa) with the Italian Hindu Union (L.31/12/2012 n. 246). As declared in Article 24 of the above-mentioned Law of agreement, Dipavali or Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is recognized in Italy as the official Hindu religious festivitThe Hindu organization.[6] ISKCON, also has an extensive presence in Italy.
