| Ship notes= }} | HMS Malabar was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 28 December 1818 at Bombay Dockyard.[1]Sir W. Montagu was appointed Captain on 25 July 1834, fitting for the Mediterranean, where, and off Lisbon, he continued until ordered home at the close of 1837 for the purpose of being paid off.[2]In 1843, the Malabar under the command of Sir George Sartorius[3] assisted in rescuing survivors of the USS Missouri fire while in Gibraltar.[4] She was hulked in October 1848, eventually becoming a coal hulk, and renamed Myrtle in October 1883. The hulk was sold out of the navy in July 1905.[5] Notes1. ^1 Lavery, Ships of the Line, vol.1, p. 189. 2. ^{{cite journal |title=Montagu, William Augustus |journal=Vide Gaz |date=1810 |page=1482}} 3. ^{{cite news |last1=Newton |first1=John Thomas |title=Official report of the loss of the United States Steam frigate Missouri |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/339040730/?terms=Missouri%2BGibraltar%2BMalabar |accessdate=31 July 2018 |issue=13 October 1843 |publisher=Richmond Enquirer |page=4}} 4. ^{{cite news |title=Loss of the USS frigate Missouri, at Gibraltar by fire |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/392156676/?terms=USS%2BMissouri%2BGibraltar%2BMalabar |accessdate=31 July 2018 |publisher=The Morning Chronicle, London |date=11 September 1843 |page=3}} 5. ^Wilson, p. 15
