At present, this genus is monotypic, as there is only one commonly accepted species in it, Hormonotus modestus, commonly known as the Uganda house snake or yellow forest snake. It is widespread in tropical Africa.[1] Its sister taxon is Inyoka swazicus, the Swazi rock snake.[2] References1. ^{{NRDB genus|genus=Hormonotus|accessdate=4 November 2014}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q2242880}}{{Colubrids-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal|last1=Kelly|first1=Christopher M.R.|last2=Branch|first2=William R.|last3=Broadley|first3=Donald G.|last4=Barker|first4=Nigel P.|last5=Villet|first5=Martin H.|title=Molecular systematics of the African snake family Lamprophiidae Fitzinger, 1843 (Serpentes: Elapoidea), with particular focus on the genera Lamprophis Fitzinger 1843 and Mehelya Csiki 1903|journal=Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution|volume=58|issue=3|year=2011|pages=415–426|pmid=21095234|doi=10.1016/j.ympev.2010.11.010}} 14 : Lamprophiidae|Monotypic snake genera|Snakes of Africa|Reptiles of Angola|Reptiles of Cameroon|Vertebrates of the Central African Republic|Reptiles of the Democratic Republic of the Congo|Reptiles of Equatorial Guinea|Reptiles of Gabon|Reptiles of West Africa|Reptiles of the Republic of the Congo|Reptiles of Uganda|Taxa named by Edward Hallowell (herpetologist)|Reptiles described in 1854 |
