"No Man's Land" makes heavy use of sitar. "Cinnamon Road" also utilizes sitar, but with a conventional pop music structure. The longest track, "Sphinx Lightning"', recapitulates every style explored by Tangerine Dream over the previous decade.{{specify|date = July 2018}} The album title refers to Hyperborea, a mythical, idyllic land in the Ancient Greek tradition, supposedly located far to the north of Thrace and where it was claimed the sun shone twenty-four hours a day.
