Description{{US Census population| align = left | 1860 = 6 | 1880 = 174 | 1890 = 117 | 1900 = 353 | 1910 = 256 | 1920 = 120 | 1930 = 152 | 1940 = 133 | 1950 = 70 | footnote = Source: U.S. Census Bureau[2]}} The settlement is located near the Deep Creek Mountains. The site was originally established in 1859 by Mormon missionaries sent to teach the local Native Americans farming methods. A Pony Express station operated here in 1860 and 1861, and the town was on an early alignment of the Lincoln Highway. A post office operated here from 1883 to 1980. Ibapah is currently inhabited mostly by Goshute people, with scattered farmlands and a trading post belonging to more recent settlers. The community is the headquarters of the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation, a federally recognized tribe. Originally named Deep Creek for a creek of the same name in the area, the name was later changed to Ibapah, an anglicized form of the Goshute word Ai-bim-pa or Ai'bĭm-pa which means "White Clay Water".[3][4] The town is isolated and is usually reached by going out of Utah into Nevada and back into Utah. ClimateThe climate is typical of that of a high elevation Great Basin location. {{Weather box|location = Ibapah, Utah (Elevation 5,280ft) |single line = Y |Jan record high F = 68 |Feb record high F = 75 |Mar record high F = 82 |Apr record high F = 88 |May record high F = 98 |Jun record high F = 103 |Jul record high F = 108 |Aug record high F = 107 |Sep record high F = 102 |Oct record high F = 94 |Nov record high F = 79 |Dec record high F = 73 |year record high F = 108 |Jan high F = 41.6 |Feb high F = 45.8 |Mar high F = 53.9 |Apr high F = 62.0 |May high F = 71.3 |Jun high F = 81.7 |Jul high F = 91.6 |Aug high F = 90.0 |Sep high F = 80.5 |Oct high F = 67.5 |Nov high F = 52.9 |Dec high F = 42.3 |year high F = 65.1 |Jan low F = 10.0 |Feb low F = 15.7 |Mar low F = 21.8 |Apr low F = 27.5 |May low F = 33.8 |Jun low F = 39.8 |Jul low F = 46.8 |Aug low F = 44.9 |Sep low F = 35.6 |Oct low F = 26.8 |Nov low F = 17.9 |Dec low F = 10.6 |year low F = 27.6 |Jan record low F = −39 |Feb record low F = −32 |Mar record low F = −17 |Apr record low F = 2 |May record low F = 8 |Jun record low F = 20 |Jul record low F = 23 |Aug record low F = 21 |Sep record low F = 10 |Oct record low F = -3 |Nov record low F = −19 |Dec record low F = −38 |year record low F = −39 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 0.62 |Feb precipitation inch = 0.77 |Mar precipitation inch = 0.95 |Apr precipitation inch = 1.29 |May precipitation inch = 1.44 |Jun precipitation inch = 0.98 |Jul precipitation inch = 0.82 |Aug precipitation inch = 0.90 |Sep precipitation inch = 0.72 |Oct precipitation inch = 0.95 |Nov precipitation inch = 0.60 |Dec precipitation inch = 0.65 |year precipitation inch = 10.69 |Jan snow inch = 6.9 |Feb snow inch = 7.1 |Mar snow inch = 5.1 |Apr snow inch = 3.4 |May snow inch = 1.2 |Jun snow inch = 0. |Jul snow inch = 0 |Aug snow inch = 0 |Sep snow inch = 0.1 |Oct snow inch = 1.7 |Nov snow inch = 3.3 |Dec snow inch = 5.9 |year snow inch = 34.7 |source 1 = The Western Regional Climate Center[5] |date=April 2013 }} See also{{portal-inline|Utah}}References1. ^1 {{gnis|1437592|Ibapah}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/decennial/ |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060208103743/http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/decennial/ |dead-url=yes |archive-date=February 8, 2006 |title=Census of Population and Housing |publisher=U.S. Census Bureau |accessdate=October 20, 2011 }} 3. ^{{cite book | last = Van Cott | first = John W. | title = Utah Place Names | year = 1990 | publisher = University of Utah Press | location = Salt Lake City, Utah | page = 197 | isbn = 0-87480-345-4}} 4. ^[https://shoshoniproject.utah.edu/language-materials/shoshoni-dictionary/dictionary.php?sho_search=&english_search=deep+creek&search=Search The University of Utah - Shoshoni Dictionary] 5. ^{{cite web| url =http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMAIN.pl?ut4174| title =Seasonal Temperature and Precipitation Information | accessdate =April 12, 2013 | publisher =Western Regional Climate Center | language = }} External links{{commons category-inline|Ibapah, Utah}}{{Tooele County, Utah}} 6 : Unincorporated communities in Tooele County, Utah|Unincorporated communities in Utah|Populated places established in 1859|Pony Express stations|Goshute|1859 establishments in Utah Territory |
