The border town on the Niger side is Assamaka. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 7,045,[1] up from 4,938 in 1998,[2] with an annual growth rate of 3.7%, the second highest in the province.[1] GeographyIn Guezzam lies in the barren Tanezrouft region of far southern Algeria. The landscape is sandy, with frequent sand dunes interspersed with sandstone outcrops. ClimateIn Guezzam has a hot desert climate (Köppen climate classification BWh), with long, extremely hot summers and short, very warm winters. Despite an extremely dry climate, some occasional rainfall occur during the months of August and September due to the influence of the far northern edge of the West African Monsoon, unlike most of the Algerian Desert. Averages high temperatures soar during the height of the long summer season, with daytime highs always over 40 °C (104 °F) during nearly 4 months and even above 45 °C (113 °F). {{Weather box|width = auto |location = In Guezzam |single line = Yes |metric first = Yes |Jan high C = 26.5 |Feb high C = 29.3 |Mar high C = 33.7 |Apr high C = 38.3 |May high C = 41.0 |Jun high C = 41.6 |Jul high C = 40.1 |Aug high C = 39.0 |Sep high C = 38.9 |Oct high C = 37.0 |Nov high C = 32.6 |Dec high C = 28.4 |Year high C = |Jan mean C = 18.6 |Feb mean C = 21.1 |Mar mean C = 25.3 |Apr mean C = 30.1 |May mean C = 33.3 |Jun mean C = 34.6 |Jul mean C = 33.3 |Aug mean C = 32.4 |Sep mean C = 31.8 |Oct mean C = 29.3 |Nov mean C = 24.6 |Dec mean C = 20.6 |Year mean C = |Jan low C = 10.7 |Feb low C = 13.0 |Mar low C = 17.0 |Apr low C = 22.0 |May low C = 25.6 |Jun low C = 27.6 |Jul low C = 26.5 |Aug low C = 25.9 |Sep low C = 24.8 |Oct low C = 21.6 |Nov low C = 16.6 |Dec low C = 12.8 |Year low C = |Jan rain mm = 0 |Feb rain mm = 0 |Mar rain mm = 0 |Apr rain mm = 0 |May rain mm = 1 |Jun rain mm = 3 |Jul rain mm = 7 |Aug rain mm = 23 |Sep rain mm = 9 |Oct rain mm = 0 |Nov rain mm = 0 |Dec rain mm = 0 |Year rain mm = |source = Climate-data.org}} TransportationIn Guezzam lies on the Trans-Sahara Highway, at the end of the N1 Algerian national highway, which leads north to Tamanrasset and eventually Algiers. The road continues southeast to Arlit in Niger. In Guezzam is also served by In Guezzam Airport, which is, however, closed for public usage.[3] Education1.7% of the population has a tertiary education (the equal lowest rate in the province), and another 4.9% has completed secondary education.[4] The overall literacy rate is 39.4%, and is 50.7% among males and 29.1% among females; all three rates are the lowest in the province.[5] LocalitiesThe commune is composed of six localities:[6] {{div col|colwidth=22em}}
