It is found in Iran, Pakistan, possibly Afghanistan, and Iraq. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland, intermittent freshwater marshes, freshwater springs, arable land, pastureland, rural gardens, urban areas, and irrigated land. It is threatened by habitat loss. Iranian toads are prevalent in the Kirkuk region of Iraq; many US soldiers have documented their presence living in drain pipes and eddies throughout the region.
