Isiolo County is a county in the former Eastern Province of Kenya. Its population is 143,294 (2009 census),[https://web.archive.org/web/20070616215050/http://www.cck.go.ke/html/final_annex1_cover_status.pdf] and its capital is Isiolo. Isiolo County is to be the first county to be developed as part of the Kenya Vision 2030 program. Its capital and largest town is Isiolo.

The local topography is arid or semi-arid low plains. Ewaso Nyiro River flows through the county and partly bounds it. It borders Marsabit County to the north, Wajir County to the east, Garissa and Tana River counties to the south east, Meru County to the south, Laikipia County to the south west and Samburu County to the west

Culture and Media

Isiolo County is a multi-cultural society with several ethnic communities residing in the region. They include: Borana people, Turkana people, Meru people and Somali people.

Several media houses are located in the county, including: Radio Shahidi, Baliti Fm, Angaf Radio among others. Radio Shahidi is a community radio station in Isiolo, set up and owned by the Catholic Diocese of Isiolo. covers a radius of about 120 km from Isiolo town at a frequency of 97.1 fm. The Radio covers Isiolo Central, Isiolo West, Isiolo South, some parts of Meru County, Some parts of Samburu County up to Maralal town and some parts of Laikipia County. It mainly broadcasts in Swahili and English languages.

Other media houses in Isiolo county mainly broadcast in the local Borana language. They include Baliti Fm and Angaf Radio which covers a radius of about 140km from Isiolo town.

Infrastructure and Transport

Isiolo county is home to the Isiolo Airport which was recently upgraded to an international airport. Its location is approximately 283 kilometres (176 mi), by road, and about 200 kilometres (120 mi), by air, north-east of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya's largest civilian airport. The airport sits on a piece of land that measures 260 hectares (642 acres) and its passenger terminal building measures 4,500 square metres (48,438 sq ft). The geographic coordinates of this airport are:0° 20' 37.00"N, 37° 35' 16.00"E (Latitude:0.343610; Longitude:37.587778).

Subdivisions

Isiolo County has only one local authority, Isiolo county council. The district has two constituencies: Isiolo North Constituency and Isiolo South Constituency. The county is divided into six administrative divisions:
