Jackie Northam is a broadcast reporter and covers Foreign Affairs for National Public Radio (NPR). She is based in Washington, D.C. and is generally assigned the top stories such as the earthquake in Haiti and news about Guantanamo Bay.

Career

Northam has over 20 years of experience in journalism covering international and foreign policy issues. She spent five years as NPR's National Security Correspondent where she was responsible for covering US defense and intelligence policies. Prior, she spent ten years as a foreign correspondent and reported Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and Eastern Europe. During her stint in Nairobi, Kenya, she covered the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Northam's first reporting experience overseas was in London where she spent seven years.

Awards and honors

Northam has received a number of awards in journalism throughout her career which include:

  • Associated Press awards
  • Edward R. Murrow awards
  • Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award[1]
