He has represented the United States as a member of the national swim team in the FINA world championships, Goodwill Games, and the Pan American Games. Cramer won the bronze medal in the men's 100-meter backstroke at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Two years later, at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships (long-course) in Montreal, Quebec, he won gold medals in the 4×200-meter freestyle and 4×200-meter freestyle. At the 2006 short-course world championships in Shanghai, China, he won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay, and bronze medals in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay and 100-meter butterfly.
