Previously he was a Delegate of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1993 through 2002. O'Brien was defeated in his bid for re-election in 2007, losing in a close race to Democrat George Barker. BiographyO'Brien was born in Nuremberg, Germany on December 10, 1951 to Jim and Mary O'Brien. Along with his father and two brothers, Dennis and Michael, he attended the United States Military Academy and graduated in 1973.
