A JD/MBA is a dual degree program offered jointly by some law and business schools. The program generally lasts four years (saving one year over completing both degrees separately) and results in the candidate earning both a Juris Doctor degree and a Master of Business Administration degree.

Canada

Top ranking Canadian JD-MBA programs include a four-year JD/MBA at the University of Toronto,[1], York University,[2] Queen's University,[3] the three-year JD/MBA at the University of Western Ontario,[4], and the three and a half year JD/MBA at the University of Ottawa.[5] Students may apply to the joint program before matriculating to either program, or after matriculating to either law school or business school.[6]

United States

Many schools in the US offer JD/MBA programs. There are 3 common lengths of time offered for JD/MBA programs: 3 years, 3 1/2 years, or 4 years. All schools listed below with 3 or 3 1/2 year programs also offer a 4 year option for the program. Schools listed under the 4 year programs only offer a 4 year (8 semester) program.

Three Year Programs

Three Year Programs can usually be completed in 6 semesters. Most programs allow for 2 summer internships; however, some require students to take classes for at least one summer.[7] The following schools offer 3 year JD/MBA programs:

University of Pennsylvania[8], Yale University[9], Columbia University[10], Southern Methodist University[11], George Mason University[12], Northwestern University[13], University of Notre Dame[14], University of Georgia[15], Temple University[16], Belmont University[17], and University of Richmond[18].

Three and a Half Year Programs

Three and a half year programs can be completed in 7 semesters. The following schools offer 3.5 year JD/MBA programs:

Duke University[19], Emory University[20], Boston University[21], and Cornell University[22].

Four Year Programs

Four year programs can be completed in 8 semesters. The following schools offer only 4 year JD/MBA programs:

Harvard University[23], New York University[24], Stanford University [25], Georgetown University[26], Northeastern University[27], Pepperdine University[28], Villanova University[29], Elon University[30], Liberty University[31] University of Missouri[32], University of Houston[33], and University of Chicago (note: UChicago is on the quarter system and requires students to attend 13 quarters[34]).
