}} John William Buzhardt (August 17, 1936 – June 15, 2008) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros from 1958 through 1968. His best season came in 1965 when he won 13 games and lost only 8 with the White Sox. He has a career record of 71–96 with a 3.66 ERA. He was born in Prosperity, South Carolina. On June 21, 1959, he pitched a 4–0 one-hitter for the Cubs against the Phillies, allowing only a third-inning single by Carl Sawatski and facing just 28 batters, one over the minimum.[1] On July 28, 1961, in the second game of a doubleheader at Connie Mack Stadium, Buzhardt pitched a complete game, 3–2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The Phillies then lost their next 23 in a row, a modern-day major league record. They finally won their next game on August 20, defeating the Milwaukee Braves 7–4 at Milwaukee County Stadium, also in the second game of a doubleheader, and also with Buzhardt going the distance for the win.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Chicago Cubs 4, Philadelphia Phillies 0|url=http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1959/B06210CHN1959.htm|website=retrosheet.org|accessdate=July 19, 2015|date=June 21, 1959}} 2. ^{{cite news|last1=Wolf|first1=Bob|title=Longest streak was ended here|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19810507&id=8FwaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=tCkEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6666,4560224&hl=en|accessdate=July 19, 2015|work=The Milwaukee Journal|date=May 7, 1981|pages=3, 9; part 3}} External links{{Baseballstats |mlb=111830 |espn= |br=b/buzhajo01 |fangraphs=1001788 |cube=9503 |brm=buzhar001joh }}{{Chicago White Sox Opening Day starting pitchers}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Buzhardt, John}}{{US-baseball-pitcher-1930s-stub}} 17 : 1936 births|2008 deaths|Major League Baseball pitchers|Chicago Cubs players|Philadelphia Phillies players|Chicago White Sox players|Baltimore Orioles players|Houston Astros players|Baseball players from South Carolina|People from Prosperity, South Carolina|Magic Valley Cowboys players|Des Moines Bruins players|Portland Beavers|Memphis Chickasaws players|Paris Lakers players|Gainesville Owls players|Hickory Rebels players |
