He was born in Port Richmond, Staten Island. He participated in Cycling at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris and won the bronze medal in the men's sprint. He also competed in the 25 km race, but did not finish.[1] In 1900 Lake invented a machine that allowed him to ride his bike on a stand that, with the help of a partner, would grind the blades of skates.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/la/john-lake-1.html |title=John Henry Lake Olympic Results |accessdate=2013-05-02 |work=sports-reference.com |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130207060658/http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/la/john-lake-1.html |archivedate=2013-02-07 |df= }} 2. ^Makes Training Pay, Greensburg Daily Review, February 23, 1900 External links
