He served as the head football coach at Middle Tennessee State University (1917, 1935–1938), Auburn University (1929), and The Citadel in South Carolina (1930–1931), compiling a career college football record of 39–21–4. Floyd was also the head basketball coach at Vanderbilt University from 1927 to 1929 and at Middle Tennessee from 1935 to 1939, tallying a career college basketball mark of 22–53. Coaching careerIn 1917, Floyd entered his first stint as a head coach at Middle Tennessee, and had a record of 7–0. Jess Neely was a member of the 1917 team. In 1929, he coached at Auburn, and compiled an 0–4 record. This makes him the only coach in NCAA history to lose four straight games after winning his first seven. From 1930 to 1931, he coached at The Citadel, and compiled a 9–9–3 record. From 1935 to 1938, he entered his second stint as a head coach at Middle Tennessee State, where he compiled a 23–8–1 record, including a second undefeated season in 1935 at 8–0. Floyd was the eighth head football coach at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, serving for two seasons, from 1930 to 1931, and compiling a record of 9–9–3.[4] Head coaching recordFootball{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders | conf = Independent | startyear = 1917 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1917 | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 7–0 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Auburn Tigers | conf = Southern Conference | startyear = 1929 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1929 | name = Auburn | overall = 0–4{{#tag:ref|George Bohler coached the first five games of the season.|group="n"|name="1929season"}} | conference = 0–4 | confstanding = 23rd | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Auburn | overall = 0–4 | confrecord = 0–4 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = The Citadel Bulldogs | conf = Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association | startyear = 1930 | endyear = 1931 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1930 | name = The Citadel | overall = 4–5–2 | conference = 3–0–1 | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1931 | name = The Citadel | overall = 5–4–1 | conference = 4–1 | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = The Citadel | overall = 9–9–3 | confrecord = 7–1–1 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders | conf = Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association | startyear = 1935 | endyear = 1938 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = conference | year = 1935 | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 8–0 | conference = 5–0 | confstanding = 1st | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = conference | year = 1936 | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 7–1 | conference = 5–0 | confstanding = 1st | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1937 | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 6–1–1 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1938 | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 2–6 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Middle Tennessee | overall = 30–8–1 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 39–21–4 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = }}See also- List of college football head coaches with non-consecutive tenure
