Originally employed by the station in Hobart as a journalist, she is a former Miss Tasmania and in 1993 she was awarded Miss Australia.^[2]

Jo is a past recipient of the Tasmanian of the Year for her charity and community work.

Currently residing in Launceston, Jo has four children and is a prominent speaker at a number of Tasmanian charity and community functions.
